We've been in business nearly 16 years! We asked our stylists (and other professionals) what the best tips are for finding your wedding dress... Here are some of the best answers we found.
1. Stay true to what you love and yourself
Are you easy-going? Did you always want to be a princess? Stay true to who you are and your personal style!
2. Consider how you feel in the dress
Not everyone has that "moment" where they cry and know that wedding dress is the one. Sometimes it's just a really good feeling while in the dress, such as feeling beautiful, confident and strong.
3. Plan other costs into your wedding dress budget, such as alterations, accessories and gown preservation
Alterations and wedding gown preservation can add $300 - 600+ to your dress costs.
4. Less is more! Bring those whose opinions you value the most. Too many can be confusing!
We've seen brides who have 8+ guests and all the opinions can get overwhelming. Stick with 2-4 people.
5. Wear the right undergarments: a sticky bra, strapless, shape wear (like spanx), or nude underwear
If you plan to wear shape wear on the day of your wedding, also wear it while trying on wedding dresses.
6. Figure out your wedding vibe/theme
Do you want it to be formal and full of glitz? Or laid back yet elegant? Your wedding dress can help set the tone.
7. Shop early
Some designers can take 6+ months to order your dress size, especially if you're adding in some custom details. Don't forget alterations can take a couple months!
8. Don't forget: you can tweak your gown during alterations too!
Don't get too hung up if your favorite wedding dress doesn't have straps, the tailor can add some that look like they came with the dress! Wanted more bling on your dress? Add a belt or jeweled appliques that the seamstress can sew on!
9. Wear some light makeup or think about how you want your hair
You don't need to be totally glammed up (it might on the dress!) but have a little bit of makeup so it'll help you envision how you'll look the day of.
Do you plan on having your hair half up and half down for the wedding? Bring a clip or hair tie so you can see how your favorite dress will look with that hair style!
10. Throw out the rules too!
Yes, it might be nice if your dress matches the venue, but don't forget to #1 and BE YOURSELF! If you want to wear a ball gown at the beach, just do it!
11. Don't forget the bustle
Ask your seamstress or tailor to add a bustle in your dress so your train isn't dragging behind you all night.
12. When you've found a gown you love, RELAX and stop looking!
YES, there's a lot of wedding dresses out there in the world, but if you've found the one you love and feel good in, STOP looking! Decision paralysis is real and don't doubt how you felt in your dress ;)
